Should you actually care what the Utilization Rate (UR) of your school is?

No. The UR of your school is the number of students attending divided by the Ministry Rated Capacity.
If the board built your school thirty years ago to accommodate 600 kids but there are only 300 attending then your school’s UR is 50% and should close according to the School Board because its standard is 60%.
But your school seems to be doing quite a good job in spite of this handicap so why should it close?

It shouldn’t.

If students are learning and the teachers are teaching, what is wrong with this picture?

Nothing.
The Ministry or the school board does not care how well your school is doing. It thinks that it is paying too much to keep the building open. That is what the UR is all about.
So when board staff start talking about UR, tell them you don’t care.

The only thing that you, as a community should care about is just having a good school in your community.
