A reputable journalist must ensure that all their facts in an article are as accurate as possible. Documents confirmed, sources verified and witnesses duplicated. It is an honourable profession.
But this is not a work of journalism, It is a blog and blogs are not responsible. Blogs use rumors, implied ideas and the unguarded comment as their sources.
So here goes.
It is rumored that board staff is looking at selling properties so that it can move its head office to the Celestica site in Dawn Mills. This up to date building will have all the computer gizmos needed by the board as well as some swell offices, classrooms and cafeteria. Compared to the claustrophobic 5050 Yonge St. this sounds good.
But at what price? Surly, the Board will have to put up more than 5050 to seal the deal. It will have to offer a number of school sites to a developer to make this happen. But communities are being told that school sites are being sold to improve local education. But in this deal, local sites will be sold for the creature comforts of senior staff and trustees. How will this sell at election time?
I advocated selling 5050 a while ago but not on this scale. The Board has a lot of land on which a great head office could be built. Given its prime Yonge St. location, no other school site would have to be proffered.
But who am I to suggest this. Just a lonely blogger.
