After a series of contentious meetings and a survey with parents of the deaf and hard of hearing students, the board was unable to get what it wanted – the consolidation of all the programs in the city into one site.
That community is very politically aware and traditionally split between the ASL and the oral communication group.
The main problem is that the students are now dealing with long bus trips and the new single site will make many trips longer.
With no clear result from the meetings, the board staff will probably form the recommendation to the board.
The question is will the board hear the deaf community?
