Has the board given up closing schools – not likely.

Take  a look at the board’s school closing site; there ain’t one.

It doesn’t lead anywhere.

Does this mean that the board has given up on its policy of closing as many schools as possible to pay for a three billion dollar capital debt?

Probably not. More likely it is just not doing anything during the election season.

Take a look at this dead end site and you will see the reasons for school closing.

“By 2019, it will take $6 billion to upgrade our facilities to a state of good repair, which includes building renewal, program upgrades and technology, code compliance, and green initiatives.  Capital funding from the government is far below our need.

The government expects the TDSB to use its unneeded capital assets (lands and buildings) to fund required capital improvements. (My bolding)”

In other words, the board has no say about if it should close schools because the government expects it to.

The board is a farce of a governing body.

  1. I’d say you hit the nail on the head. In fact, though, the province under the Canadian constitution has power over education. The provincial election in June was our chance to elect a new government and what did we do?
